Jack gets a Minelab
When I met Jack in November 2007 he had recently retired, moved to AZ
and started pursuing his dream, prospecting.
He was spending a lot of time each week in the AZ desert metal detecting
with his Whites Gold Master 2 and his Garrett Infinium.
One day he and I were detecting and I found a small picker down deep.
He was astounded at the depth I found such a small nugget. He then swung
his Garrett PI over it and it didn't see it even on the ground. Now he
was sure he had been walking over gold for months not knowing it..
I suggested he upgrade to a Minelab GP series detector and
start finding some gold.
This wasn't that nugget but for illustration only, the picker was much, much smaller.
He then purchased a used GP3000 he'd found on the web. I loaned him a
16 inch Nugget Finder coil and he was all set to go find nuggets.
Second day out and he scored his first Minelab nugget. A 1/2 ounce specimum
he found about 14 inches in the ground, he was ecstatic.
What a nice nugget, it had it all, gold, rose quartz, hematite, nice.
What a change, this guy can't wait to get out each day, hitting the
hills swinging his Minelab.
Here he recovered a nice jewelry grade 4 DWT (penny weight) nugget.
This would make any prospector happy, thanks to the Minelab GP3000.
No VLF machine or the cheaper PI (pulse induction) machines
he had could compare.
Zoom forward to March, 2008.
On the left was his 4 month take with his Garrett and Whites, just 4 nuggets.
On the right was his take for the last 5 weeks with his Minelab GP3000, a total
of 24 nuggets. He's still learning his machine and the advantages of
having a couple extra coils of various shapes and sizes.
Note: Jack puts in a lot of time detecting the desert each week.
Even a Minelab GP won't get you gold if you don't get out, put in the
hours covering new ground and learn how to properly use it.
Now life is great, nuggets are coming his way almost every day.
Best of luck to you Jack!
