Made it out to Gold Springs for a couple days of prospecting.
Gold Springs is 75 miles west of St. George, Utah
just off HWY 56.
This was the source of the gold that was first discovered
at Pikes
Diggings placers on the Utah Nevada stateline in the
1890's.
The road to Buck Mountain was very well marked, dirt but in good shape.
The area has many old cabins and many open mineshafts.
It's famous
for its extremely rich outcrops of gold discovered
in 1897. History has
it that the gold ran 1000+ ounces to the ton. Early
on some of the ore was
shipped by armed guard all the way to Salt Lake City
to be processed
This shaft was very deep and dropped rocks bounced for a long time.
