Simple Rock Crusher

Seems this hobby of prospecting takes you through all phases.
Placer mining and then lode mining. I find myself looking at rock
outcrops and taking samples back to crush and pan out. The old
crusher on right works ok for small samples but I wanted
something larger, so I built a larger one.

This is a simple project, what you see is what I used.

First I built the pounder it's a solid 2 1/2 inch bar with a handle.

Then I welded the large 16 inch pipe to a thick steel plate.

An afterthought was the handle to tilt and dump with.

This is how it stacks up.

I had some gold bearing quartz and tried it out.

It's the perfect height for setting in the chair and pounding.

After I was satisfied with it's performance I painted it.
And the pounded Quartz, I'll just keep that to myself
I don't want to start a gold rush.
