Ultimately, the Land Status of an area is defined by its history. It all begins with how the property originally became a part of the United States. From the original thirteen colonies in the east, to the Louisiana Purchase, through to the land acquired by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hildago, each parcel of land begins with certain rights and restrictions.
From that point forward, the land status is changed by law,
sale, grant, or any other number of circumstances. Understanding
the nature of major land acquisitions and transfers is the
ultimate beginning to knowing the current land status of the
land around you.
