What is Mineralogy?

A Mineral is a naturally occurring, inorganic, homogeneous solid with a definite chemical composition and an ordered atomic structure. In more basic terms its a collection of one or more elements stacked neatly into a crystal structure.

Mineralogy is the study of minerals in regards to their formation, occurrence, properties, composition, crystal structure, and classification.

You can learn to identify the types of rocks and minerals that make up the land around you.Gemstones can be minerals. Diamonds, emeralds, rubies, and sapphires are minerals. Rocks are composed of one or more minerals.
