This group of maps explores the energy sources in the continental United States.
This map' displays the active renewable energy sources in the continental United States. It includes mapping of the following renewable energy resources.
Wind Power map layers (Shown in RED) shows the location of 77,389 individual wind turbines. The Wind mapping group also includes a layer displaying "Planned Towers" showing the footprint of currently planned additions to the wind poer grid. Clicking on or near the a wind turbine while using the information tool will bring up a window with the Turbine name, the year built and the Height in Feet.
Sun Power map layer (Shown in ORANGE) displays the 3,699 commercial solar electric generating installation facilities. Clicking on or near the outline of a solar installation while using the information tool will bring up a window with the Facility name, the year built and the AC Megawatts produced.
Hydro Power map layer (Shown in BLUE) displays the location of 2,489 dams and water features producing hydropower electricity. The Hydro Power map does not display irrigation, water storage, flood control or other types of dams. Clicking on or near a dam marker while using the information tool will bring up a window with the Dam name, the River or Stream. the year dam was built and the Hazard Potential of the dam.
This map' displays the actual average annual amount of solar radiation across the continental U.S. with the current active solar arrays displayed. The darker the red tone the more the average solar radiance.

Click on a category on the right hand menu. A list will open below the menu item. When you scroll over the list items they will highlight in green. Click on the highlighted item of your choice and the map for that item will open in a new window.
All of the maps are interactive Each map is created when you click the refresh (two arrows chasing each other), move the map or zoom in or out. Pick the layers you want to display and zoom in to see more detail. Use the information button (the big i) to see more information about the features near your click point. Within the results shown there are often links to even more detailed information.
