Why we created this Report

On September 24, 2015,the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) published a Notice of Proposed Withdrawal; Sagebrush Focal Areas; Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Wyoming and Notice of Intent to Prepare an Environmental Impact Statement for the Proposed Withdrawal in the Federal Register. If approved, this will withdraw lands from location and entry under the 1872 Mining Law, subject to valid existing rights, for up to 20 years.

This proposed withdrawal covers approximately 10 million acres. The BLM has provided numerous documents to help the public understand this proposed withdrawal. However they did not provide clear, detailed information on the impact of this withdrawal on those who hold mining claims in the affected areas. Land Matters has created this report to help fill this information gap.

This Land Matters exclusive report details Mining Claims listed as active with the BLM on 12/31/2015 that are located within the boundaries of the proposed withdrawal area. We included all claims located within any section in which any portion of that section was within the boundary of the withdrawal. Therefore, a few claims in the report may be included that are not within the area specifically affected by the withdrawal. To create this report we used the Sage Grouse Withdrawal Map provided by the BLM and as such the accuracy of our data is dependent on the accuracy of the BLM map.
