Donations in Kind - Things Land Matters Needs
Land Matters needs a laptop to allow us to keep on top of things when we travel. We currently get by with an iPad, but its functionality is limited.
When in the office, we use a 2009 Mac Pro tower for doing all the day-to-day tasks and the heavy processing. But it is far from portable.
We don't need the latest or the greatest. A used MacBook Pro that is a couple years old and in good operating condition is generally what we are looking for to handle our needs.
Do you have a laptop that is older, but in good operating condition taking up space in the office? Maybe you are planning for an upgrade to the latest MacBook Pro this fall? Please consider making a much appreciated donation to Land Matters.
If you are an expert in PHP programming or Apache2 server maintenance we could use a few hours of your time.
The Director and volunteers at Land Matters have done a great job of putting together a complex website with a mapping engine and spatial database but none of them are experts in PHP or server structure.
The Land Matters code base could use use a good audit and tuning by an expert. Please consider donating a little of your time and knowledge if you have these skills.
Many thanks to those who have already donated goods and money to help us obtain the equipment we need. Last years call for a Mac Pro Tower and a FireWire storage drive were promptly answered! Thank You!
Land Matters accepts donations of certain types of physical goods that can be used directly by Land Matters or that can be resold to provide funds for the operation of Land Matters.
Things that Land Matters can Resell:
Land Matters can resell donated items through Ebay or other outlets to provide funds for our operations. It is necessary for us to place a few limitations on the type and location of items we can accept. We are a small organization, and must ensure that any donation we accept will contribute funds to the organization.
It is difficult to say "no thanks" to any donation. And we won't if we can sell the item and make money on it. That's the whole point.
Limitations on Physical Location:
Land Matters is located in Morristown, on the western edge of Phoenix, Arizona. All donations of physical goods must either be delivered to us in Morristown, or be within a reasonable distance for us to pick-up. An item may not be accepted if it is very heavy and we do not think we can sell it locally. Transportation costs can eat up all of the profit on large items.
Quality of Items
All donations must be of quality and readily salable, in good, working condition.

Donated Goods - US tax laws allow for the deduction of some donated goods for income tax purposes. In general, goods donated are valued at fair market value. Essentially the amount that the charity can realize from a sale. There are plenty of special rules and exceptions. Please due your own research to determine your tax benefits. A good place to start is IRS publication 526 - Charitable Contributions
Tax Receipts - Land Matters will provide a receipt for your donated goods as required by law or upon request.
Donated Services - There are no provisions for deducting the value of time or services donated.
