Real Time Maps
Real Time Maps are those maps where the content changes on a regular basis. With update times ranging from one minute to one day these maps are always streamed from internet servers.
To see the most current information on a quick updating map like weather radar or infrared cloud cover it will be necessary to click the "REFRESH" button for each change. Other maps, like the live stream gauges, may have very different update times depending on the local data source.
Being strictly internet based using these maps can be frustrating sometimes. They tend to be slow loading sometimes and at other times they may be entirely unavailable. If a map seems to "hang" without loading in a reasonable time try turning off a layer or two and clicking on the "REFRESH" button.
US Weather has both real time NEXRAD Radar and Infrared Sattelite layers to help you visualize current local weather conditions in the United States.
Current Fires brings a graphic presentation of current large fires in the United States. Current Status as well as recent past information on areas burned are available as well as satellite imaging of existing hot spots. Updates are regular but inconsistent depending on conditions on the ground.
Current Stream Flows are the data feeds and graphing of current and historic stream flows at some 6,000 locations throughout the United States. Internet links are provided for eack location by click on a station of interest while in information mode.
Real Time maps tend to come and go on the internet. We will attempt to bring you the best, most current information that may be of benefit to our users. Map sources and display may change over time. Please let us know if there is a particular real time map that you feel would be of benefit to Land Matters users.
Click on a category on the right hand menu. A list will open below the menu item. When you scroll over the list items they will highlight in green. Click on the highlighted item of your choice and the map for that item will open in a new window.
All of the maps are interactive Each map is created when you click the refresh (two arrows chasing each other), move the map or zoom in or out. Pick the layers you want to display and zoom in to see more detail. Use the information button (the big i) to see more information about the features near your click point. Within the results shown there are often links to even more detailed information.
If there is a particular map subject you would like us to include in the collection just let us know and we will do our best to put that together for you.
